Járitz, Józsa

Budapest, 1893 - 1986, Budapest

Studied at the artist colony of Kecskemét in 1914, taught by Béla Iványi Grünwald, and then attended the school of his master in Budapest during the World War, going on to studies at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in 1920. He went to Paris in 1924, making a living from teaching dance. This is how he got to know Mondrian, while also making the contact of Picasso. He participated in the exhibitions of the Salon d' Indépendants regularly, became a member of the Société des Artistes Indépendants, and even found patrons who supported his study trips in Italy, Switzerland and Algeria. He joined KUT in 1925, returning to Hungary in 1930 to settle in Kiskunmajsa. He was among the founders of the New Group of Women Artists in 1931.
