After studying art history he attended the private school of Simon Hollósy from 1892, and trained himself at the Julian Academy from 1893. Returning for a short stint in Munich in 1895, he was already working in Nagybánya in 1896, painting upon the Izvora. He was a core member of MIÉNK and also participated in laying the foundations of the Szinyei Society. He taught at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts between 1914 and 1938.
