Dénes, Valéria

1877 - 1915

She studied in the private art school of Ferenc Szablya-Frischauf. In 1910 she went to Paris and became a pupil of Matisse. She painted fresh still lifes of glowing, flaming colours. She was the companion of the painter Sándor Galimerti from 1911 on whom she later married. They mutually influenced each other's art, both incorporating the cubistic construction of space into their painting.
