A student of the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts from 1958, a member of the Zugló Circle in the sixties. He participated in the Iparterv exhibitions from 1968 onwards. As a scholarship fellow of the Folkwang Museum of Essen he made a début in a highly successful exhibition in 1971. He was one of the founders of the Budapest Workshop in 1971, established to popularise modern art, and to develop the visual environment, and had a major role in drawing up its programme. He worked at the Fine Arts department of the Institute of Public Education between 1971 and 1979. From 1987 to 1991 he taught at the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts, as well as director of the Institute of Education Theory and Teacher Training, and received his appointment as University professor in 1990. Apart from his writings on educational theory, his work on art theory is also of note.
